Ma and Pa Information

Trek “families” will be organized with 8 to 10 youth led by married adult “mas and pas.” The mas and pas will be responsible for helping their family have a safe and spiritual experience on trek. 

Family Equipment List

Please borrow as many of these items as possible from your ward family.  Your respective ward liaison will assist you in collecting these supplies. 

Please pack all equipment, except tents and tarps, in a tote. Roll up tarps and fasten with bungees or duct tape. Mark everything with family name.

  • 1 (6 person) tent for young women
  • 1 (6 person) tent for young men
  • 1 tent for Ma and Pa
  • Heavy-duty tent stakes
  • 3 tarps for under tents
  • 1 tarp for shade/rain on the trail
  • Whiskbroom
  • Hammer
  • 1-2 Lantern(s) and extra batteries
  • Garbage bags – several
  • Zip-lock bags (large and small)
  • 2 – 5 gallon water coolers
  • Bungees or rope to fasten water coolers to handcart
  • Extra rope
  • Extra Bungee cords
  • 1 long-handled spoon for stirring Gatorade
  • Cooler for lunches to take on handcart (large enough to fit 10 lunches)
  • Clothespins
  • Leatherman-style tool (multi-tool)
  • Permanent marker
  • Duct Tape
  • 2 Rolls of TP
  • Kleenex
  • Spray bottles (for misting family along the trail)
  • Vial of consecrated oil
  • Family Flag (2’x3’ with 2” sleeve)
  • Trek Folder (Provided)

Depending upon fire conditions, the following might also be needed:

  • Matches and/or lighter
  • Newspaper for starting fire

Family First Aid Kit

Each handcart will carry a basic family first aid kit. The Stake is providing most of the items for this kit in a ziploc bag, but need the mas/pas to bring a few additional items.

Mas/Pas Please Bring:

  • Tweezers
  • Small Scissors (to cut mole skin)
  • Family size sunscreen (30 SPF or greater)
  • Insect repellent – with DEET

Supplies Provided:

  • Non-latex gloves (3 pair)
  • Band-aids (6)
  • Hand sanitizer (8-ounce)
  • Alcohol wipes (6 pack)
  • Baby wipes (50-count)
  • Antibiotic ointment (4 pack)
  • Mole skin for hot spots/blisters (small sheet)
  • Safety pins
  • Ibuprofen (10 tablets per container)
